The jazz reverie plays two blocks over
and the lovers speak without saying a word
in the open windows of the apartment
above the city in the south
They know the night is young but the
look in their eyes is long
“You can tell so much with one kiss”
and trust passes between them like wildfire
they know this spark will not go gently
but soft is not what they’re looking for
A touch of the waist their bodies align
right now, this is real as could ever be
he thinks of the caffe on the corner
where coffee with friend turned confession
Time will reveal all but tonight is theirs
as the walls of the world fall away
the birds will sing at 7 a.m.
but tonight the saxophone plays.
