We go dancing instead

It’s my first time on the train in the
small city with the big dreams making
connections and moving quick
two-dollar fare but no way off track

We sit in silence and I hold her hand and feel
her future has slipped aside away
in the night without a sound

The plans for tomorrow are not to come
and all the tomorrows after that

Growing old got up and walked away
she will forever live without

He weighs my mind tonight as I’m moving from
here this train won’t take me far enough away

We can dance on the edge of the city
when the stars come out and never
look back never look around

He rushes right through me on his way out
of town I jump on the train to catch him
feel our bodies moving together swaying
to our song but I don’t know my stop.
