Stairs are no object in this
twisted game as heel slips
off concrete
Let’s call it an accident
Dog leash wraps
around ankles and calves
Canines out of harm’s way
and you are, too.
It’s not my fault – I was tied up, don’t you see?
If I tumble we all fall down.
Hollow threats but you know they mean nothing
threaten to expose your words to the world
and you run, not out of concern for my heart
but worry for your physical hurt
I see through you and laugh
You are not who I thought you were.
I would die for you
and you won’t stand up for me.

A crude poetic response for you
Oh? (for Melissa)
Don’t you wonder why
We’re not together?
Did it ever occur to you
That it’s not that simple
To just take what you want
And damn the consequences?
“Calm down,” you said
Don’t tell me how to be
In your high dudgeon
Angry at me like you are
Too bad, so sad
So very very sad for you
“Calm down yourself.”
You really are agitated
I get that. Do you?
It’s really too bad
For you
To have that feeling
Little boy
Too bad indeed for you
Slam the chair on the floor
Make a scene, Make some noise
Hit the refrigerator if you must
But touch ME again
And I’ll kill you as sure as
Night follows Day
or Day follows Night.
As dead as the dead get.
“The door is over there,” I point.
“What are you saying?”
Could you possibly be
This fucking stupid?
Wait.
Of course you are.

This poem is awesome, Phil! You should post it on your blog!
Naah, it’s for you. 🙂 And I did get an ‘A’ in empathy class so I truly feel your pain. So take care of yourself. Remember what the Buddha said, “Chaos is inherent in all compounded things. Strive on with diligence.”
