She wondered briefly if the smell of roses
when there were none to be found
might be evidence of brain trauma
Brushed it off and convinced him
salsa dancing was the way to fix this
focused on their connection as they
glided across the dance floor. They were
lithe and surreal and all the things
young love was supposed to be
but she already did not feel it
and he did not yet know it
as he held her tight and breathed life
into her limp body, but her mind was gone.
He wondered if she wore new perfume …
She smelled rose-like as she departed his world.

I was about to ask… was I the only one who thought food? Probably because the assignment had to do with that article about seeing the virgin Mary in some salsa.
