As you may recall, I decided 2012 is officially my year to say yes to new things. The last time I checked in, I cited hot yoga (which I began in December, so I guess that’s not officially 2012, but it’s still new to me), rock climbing, working out at 6 a.m. (boot camp class), Zumba (which sounds like a terrible idea to me, but some lessons in coordination could be good for me) and pink hair.
A quick tally of the results thus far: rock climbing was so much fun and such a good challenge; I can’t wait to go back. Getting up early for my 6 a.m. workouts taught me that I absolutely love getting up early. So my new routine is to get up at 4 a.m. and do an hour and a half of work before going to class. By the time class is over, I have been up for hours. I’m sleeping better at night, too. Still haven’t done Zumba yet. Hoping to get a class or two in next week, so stay tuned. And pink hair is officially the greatest thing I’ve ever done to my appearance. I have been a part of so many conversations now that started with a stranger saying “I love your hair!”

And now, I have one new adventure to add to the list: Warrior Dash. Meghan asked Stacey and me if we wanted to do it with her. My first thought: hell no. My second thought was of my New Years resolution, so I took a deep breath and texted back, “Why not? Count me in.”
The 3.1 mile run doesn’t scare me. The obstacles don’t really scare me, although I fully expect to be no good at them. The fire scares me. I had the perfect view of it at the finish line last year while waiting for Meghan to come across it. It’s really not a big fire. You could pretty much step over it. But I’m clumsy, and it was hot. The barbed wire doesn’t thrill me either. And on that note, the fact that I’m clumsy means these obstacles are going to be quite interesting. But the mud pit will be awesome.
I was meeting with a client recently, and we were talking about life’s adventures. She pointed out to me that she noticed I’m cautious, yet adventurous. It’s a strange combination. And she’s absolutely right. I love the idea of doing this, but I’m going to be the world’s worst when it comes to the fear part.
But who cares? It’s going to be fun. That’s all that matters. And Stacey and Meghan and I are going to dress up in matching outfits. And we’re going to jump into a big mud bath at the end.

And on that note, I’ll add a cryptic note here that some very exciting things are happening on the graphic design front. All because I opened myself up to an adventure I didn’t even know I was looking for. More of that to come soon, but the lesson here is to always keep your eyes open to new things.

So what about you? How is your year going? What new adventures are you finding?
